Pool & Water Safety for Pets

Not all dogs and cats can swim! Short-legged breeds (like Dachshunds) and flat-faced breeds (Pugs, French Bulldogs, etc.) have a higher risk of drowning, so extra caution is important.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞:
• Always supervise near water
• Fence or cover your pool
• Use pet-safe ramps or steps
• Avoid cold water (can cause fatigue/hypothermia)
• Don’t let pets drink pool or ocean water
• Rinse after swimming & dry ears
• Use life jackets in lakes, rivers, or the ocean
• Keep the pool area tidy — no toys, no loose chemicals

𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬:
Small pets can squeeze under or through gaps. Reinforce the bottom of your fence and keep furniture away so they can’t climb over.

𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐬:
Show your dog where the steps or ramp are. Untrained pets may panic and tire quickly.

Cats shouldn’t swim in pools due to chemical ingestion risks.
