DR LAUREN BLACKNEY (BVBiol/BVSc(Hons)
Veterinarian – @ MRAH since March 2021
Lauren is one of our Senior Associate Veterinarians. She graduated from Charles Sturt University with honors in 2014. She was an exceptional student and her research project into cattle farming practices was presented at the international Buiatrics Congress in 2014 resulting in new practices being adopted within the industry. She began her career in mixed practice in Numerkah and was thriving. Eventually the call of home became too strong and luckily for us, she returned to our region. Family life has since seen her turn her focus to small animal practice here at MRAH.
Lauren has a passion for the art of Veterinary Science and the culmination of communication and medical knowledge that it requires. She loves taking the time to explain to you what is happening with your pet, as well as the benefits of preventative management and treatments, as she is a strong believer that prevention is better than cure.
Lauren loves learning as much she loves teaching. She can be heard quietly and patiently taking our junior nurses through procedures and is often in the middle of vet discussions about cases, treatments, and conundrums.
Lauren can handle whatever comes our way during a busy day in the clinic and is agile enough to rearrange her day when an emergency or urgent procedure presents itself. She is equally skilled at lightening the mood with a self-deprecating anecdote that gets the team laughing, and lessening the tension just when we need it!
She has excellent skills in ultrasound and the team internally refer to her when this specialized imaging diagnostic test is needed. When not at work, Lauren loves spending her time with her husband Kieran, daughter Frankie, son Calvin, and their dog Skip
